When you think of the Empire, what colors do you think of?

7. November 2008 - 12:17
I'm thinking of redoing my card backgrounds, and while I love the blue, red and yellow I am using now, I kinda want to brighten that up and use those colors for the L/S cards.

What colors for the empire? I need three that go well together. I was thinking:

Purple, white, green
Red, Black, White
Black, Red, Purple
Gold, Red, Purple
White, Red (Deep), Purple..

Thoughts?

SSB or SB?

7. November 2008 - 4:01
Seriously. This has always bothered me. I mean starship is one word.

What's you're favorite thing about Star Wars?

1. November 2008 - 0:22
Mine is, of course, the space battles and the ships.

But about the Universe as a hole, I love how the books, movies, and shows continue to add depth to the characters.

Obi-Wan never became a cool character until He beat Darth Maul. That Lighsaber fight was awesome...

Boba Fett never really became cool (for me) until The battle of Caluula during hte Vong War, and even more so During the Legacy of the Force Novels, where you get a glimpse of Mando culture.

As for Luke, I never really liked him until He used his own and Jacen's Lightsaber to fend of a bunch of Vong... Before that he always seemed to be afraid to lead the Jedi into conflict, and was kind of a wimp until he was FORCED to do something.

Well, those are my quick and not very detailed impressions, at any rate.

I just enjoy how the boosk and such are wrapping everything together into one cohesive galaxy.

SSB Revamp

29. October 2008 - 0:03
I have already posted this on another Thread, but I think it is time we put forth our ideas for a new direction. Star Wars without ships is like half the story. I can't reconcile this. I think we have two camps. One camp wants to use what already exists and the other camp is to throw out the old and completely start anew. One thing we all agree on is that there will be totally new rules. I propose using the old models with a new SSB2 set. Here is what I would like to see.

This game would require a major revamp. It would need to get the community together on a more intellectual level by engaging the previous purchasers of the original set (which no doubt would be the core). I believe the lifeblood of the Star Wars spirit would have to be injected into this Shoot 'em Up has-been.

I would completely throw out those original rules and not look back. I would then offer a Set II and the Basic Set like Rebels and Imperials (best of SSB1). There would then be a way to purchase replacement cards for SSB1 Original via online ordering and also free pdfs of the redone SSB1 for those that don't care about paying for the cards. From there, I would promote a whole new perspective on what would become the new premier space combat game. I would send free test kits to the FLGS (including new models to gawk at) as well as test kits on PDFs for those wishing to test out the new rules.

Lastly, there would also need to be a real good source book behind this major relaunch to integrate the combat game into the role playing game. I know they have a source book, but it reads like the SSB1 game doesn't even exist. If such a source book was created, there could then be rules for more advanced play, as well as rules leading to full Roleplaying Rules and mass combat rules. I believe the key would be to seamlessly transition the rules to the role playing rules and then take it beyond that for those that want more realism. I think then, there would be an opportunity to bring the game to much greater ambition, while being completely inclusive to everyone who would be interested in the thing.

On a side note, I have to agree, the Clone Wars show really has given model makers a lot to chomp on. Just watching that show I can see a mindboggling number of the new possibilities to come. I hate to say it, but this hobby has just begun all over again. How can Lucasfilm come up with so many cool new ships and not have an awesome mini game to go with it? I am not a fan of paper crud either. Star Wars is about space fighting too! Where is it???? Miniatures are a profitable market. What is up with this?

Cheers,
Zuxius

Rules I've thought of and explainations on why they are needed

28. October 2008 - 16:56
Range rule. Personally I'm a fan of the
3 for class 3, 6 for class 2, 9 for class 1.
The idea behind this is that each class has to cross one turn worth to fire at the next class up. Thus class 3s have to cross 2 turns of fire to get to a class 1.

Range Extentions. Broadsides or Spinal Mount or any weapon that has a specific direction it must be shot in gets +3 range. Gives a specific bonus for these weapons that were costed fairly high from what I can see in comparisions.

Cloaking. A ship with cloaking can only be targeted with in 3 squares. However if the ship in question has a longer range it may drop its cloaking to fire. (Note this applies to point defence as well if you shoot the pesky fighters your cloak no longer covers you from enemy class 1, 2, 3s. Also, you must declare if your dropping your cloak or not when you move. and that a unit adjacent to you removes the cloak from being active)

Cover. Line of Sight can be blocked by a ship one class larger than it. if you can draw a straight line from base to base you can see it. A little hard to explain when I'm tired coming off graveyards but probably can gin up a diagram at some point if anyone actually cares to know it perfectly. Also a ship can be given cover by a ship of the same class, if its entire frontage plus 1 to each side is covered and the enemy can't draw a direct line to you. Note this does not let you have 4 class 3s cover a class 2 behind them. As they aren't big enough.

Point Defence. Like everyone else I just think we should steal a variation of the War at Sea idea. Your point defence fires at every enemy fighter touching you before they get to fire. And then destroyed and damaged fighters are removed/flipped and regular combat continues.

Cover gives a fleet of class 2s and 3s a chance to close with a fleet with a 1 using the 2s as frontal shields for the closing rounds. Then having the 3s pop out from behind and hammer in point blank. This is hard on the class 2s but thats a reason to have them.

The range rules make command counters become more useful, as you don't have to use or lose early on, unless you expose a particular ship to fire. It also makes interdictors more powerful. To counter this the next rule exists.

The battle field is 2 map boards wide. thus making it 22 squares wide (from memory I may be off by 2) and impossible the fighter wall... well improbable to fighter wall effectively. Thus letting sneaks and other events occur down the side lines.

I honestly don't expect much of this post but hey if anyone finds it useful PM me or drop a response.

Were we ever able to come up with some kind of revised rule list that ended up sticky

26. October 2008 - 8:48
My whole question is in the title since i just finished unpacking after multiple moves and found my SSB.

New Campaign

24. October 2008 - 17:13
Or a series of scenarios more descriptively. Some may remember I was working on this for a while, some may even remember the test chapter I released. Here is the whole thing, in a zipped up 14 mb package complete with maps, ship cards and instructions.

I hope you enjoy playing these as much as I enjoyed creating them. I welcome comments, and criticism. And by all means if you spot any oops moments let me know, I have reread this a thousand times, but I'm sure there are still typos and other flubs out there.

GAME ON!

Clone Wars - New ships - possible breath of life for SSB?

15. October 2008 - 18:50
The Clone Wars cartoon already has featured some new ships - Malevolence, proto Y wings etc. Maybe after a while and with enough new types we may get a new set, or better yet a rewritten set of rules as well that are not so poor

SSB and the RPG

14. October 2008 - 0:17
Has anyone already tried to mod the rules so they could be used in the Star Wars RPG?

Battlefleet gothic modification for Star Wars

12. October 2008 - 0:27
Well i've worked on these for over a month now, tweaking and changing the rules to fit the armies.
I changed the star ships to GWs battlefleet gothic and removed the need for miniatures for the fighters, although players still may use the starfighters as ordance markers, also i have removed the rules for torpedos as the torpedos in BFG are too powerful and too big for Star Wars (200 feet???)

Galactic Map

11. October 2008 - 20:03
Some of you may know I have a map of the Star Wars Galaxy that I made a while ago. Since, some people have requested I add more planets and such...

I've started re-tooling the map, most notably placing it on a square grid instead of a hex grid. I also got rid of the note boxes, for now, and am changing the size of the font to a smaller size with a 50% opacity so as not to detract as much from the map itself.

I'd like some help, though, coming up with notable planets that I've missed, and any natural phenomenon that I can add, such as more nebulae, asteroid fields, etc. Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

Once completed, the map will be a free download from my website.

The last version of the map is available for download here

Thank you :-)

How about a Ground Assault Version of SSB

7. October 2008 - 7:09
If WOTC does't want to make more starships then what about a ground assault version of the minis game. For example, AT-ATs that are huge, AT-Sts that are mediun, flights of rebel speeders, etc.

Come on there has to be a market for something like this.

Dogfighting Movement Rules

7. October 2008 - 7:02
I have been thinking about using the movement rules from this game

for dogfighting to make it more dynamic. Any thoughts?

Self-build Star Destroyers

30. September 2008 - 16:08
Hello,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here – I think that’s because I might be one of those lurkers ;-).
Well. anyway I think since it looks like there won’t be any official new ships - which by the is a shame – making your own is somewhat recommended if you want to play this game and ever since I found this link here
( http://www.kolumbus.fi/antti.lusila/starwars/vsd.html )
I’ve seen it is possible.

Now I’m not a model builder and I also did not want to spend a lot of money on the materials so I simply grabbed one old SSB booster package and started cutting. ( Actually I did some measuring first but I won’t bore you with tales about how ‘fun’ it was to calculate all those nice little angels and how often it didn’t fit as it should have…)

Since this was my first time doing anything like this I decided to go for a simple Imperial Star Destroyer first. I had the SSB model so I could use it as reference in addition to the blueprints I downloaded – and Star Destroyers are so hard to get I thought building one myself couldn’t hurt.

I also build some Victory class SD’s, even though they can’t quite compare to the one from Mr. Lusila. Still they are good enough for gaming.

So, enough with the blabbering, here are some pictures.

Greetings,
Nelya

Full Thrust

17. September 2008 - 18:48
Has anyone played Full Thrust using the Star Wars ships? Also, how did you convert the ships and fighters?

The rules as they are would be fine...

6. September 2008 - 20:56
...if we had some kind of strategic map, where we move fleets and conquer planets.
For planets you could receive ship building points to buy new ships there etc.
You could bring in some other bells and whistles, but if two fleets meet you just play it out with the standard rules.
Some additional rules for retreat would make sense, then.
They may not be deep, but sure they are fast, which is very well suited for this type of game if you ever want to get one finished.

Has anyone else thought or actually developed something in this direction?
